 My Bio

Salvē, amīcī!
Do you feel stuck and frustrated with your teachers for making you learn a dead language? I’ve been there!
My name is Olivia, I have been a straight-A Latin student since primary school. A reformed Latin-hater, I learned to love the language and I am passionate about helping you learn to love it, too!
I have years of tutoring experience across many subjects, but I always enjoyed 1-on-1 sessions with Latin students the most. My student experience often informs my tutoring sessions, ensuring a creative approach to developing the right revision strategy for each student.
I am now a Biomedical Science & Anatomy major at the University of Aberdeen; I can attest first-hand to how useful your knowledge of Latin will be! I have continued my study of Classics, expanding this year to Ancient Greek.

 My Experience:

My family moved from the USA to Scotland in 2017, half-way through my high school years. As such, I have experience with both American and Scottish education systems and standardized testing styles. I am well-equipped to help students navigate their own test-taking and revision strategies, developing unique approachs to ensure their success.

I have years of in-person tutoring experience, both 1-on-1 and with groups of students. My first tutoring position was as a volunteer at Kilgour Elementary school facilitating spelling, writing, math, and reading groups for students aged 5-7. I was only 9 years old myself when I began!
I continued tutoring throughout my high school years, finding the most success with 1-on-1 sessions for junior Latin students. I created specialized lesson plans and revision materials for each student. A Latin student myself at the time, I reflected on my own struggles with the language to craft materials that would help new students outside of the prescribed curricula's style. I have been taught Latin traditionally under the Jenney, Wheelock, and Cambridge Latin systems.
Additionally, I held a role as a Youth Ambasador for the charity SeeMe during my highschool years in Scotland. SeeMe works to end stigma and discrimination around mental health issues through increasing awareness and education on these issues.
I was responsible with my team for developing a student-centred curriculum and delivering Mental Health First Aid training to groups of students and teachers alike across Scotland. Organizing and facilitating my own workshops was hugely fulfilling. Ensuring each group member engaged with the content and felt a part of the discussion was always a priority for me.
I have additional experience tutoring NAT5/Higher Biology, Maths, and Chemistry students.

Please get in touch if you have any questions or concerns! I hope to see you for a session soon!
