Hello, I’m Sam. I offer tutoring in English Literature KS3-KS5, English Language KS3-KS4 and Maths KS3-KS4. I’m currently in the final year of my English Literature degree and am projected to achieve a First having been the highest achieving student on my course in my second year. I have A-Levels in English Literature (A*), English Language (A*), and Maths (A).
During my A-Levels, I took an enrichment course – Tomorrow’s Teachers – which sought to prepare students for a career in teaching, looking at lesson planning, classroom management, and child psychology. More informally, I have often helped my younger sister, who is in her final year of Secondary School, with homework and essay writing, and so am familiar with her course and the expectations of her teachers.
During my A-Level and Degree studies, I’ve covered a wide range of literature from Chaucer, through Shakespeare and Wordsworth, to American Literature of the twentieth century. I also took Creative Writing as a minor in my first year – a key component of the English Language GCSE. I am an avid football fan and enjoy playing the guitar.

I had the pleasure of being Sam’s English teacher at both GCSE and A Level. It would not be a understatement to say Sam is the best student of English I have taught in 30 years. He is organised, meticulous, conscientious (going above and beyond when researching homework for example) as well as being able to articulate his thoughts and share ideas with other pupils.
He writes accurately and thoughtfully. His top grades are reflection of both his natural talent and hard work.
Sam has strong skills in both language and literature, and more importantly a passion for both, his enthusiasm for the subject is wonderful to see in a student.
I strongly recommend him to the role and am certain he will make a success of the post should he be appointed.
Teacher of English
Sam was a student at Alder Grange School from September 2011 until July 2018. In Year 11 he was appointed to the role of Head Boy, and in the sixth form Vice President of the Student Union.
Sam was an exceptional student leader in both these roles. He spoke confidently in front of large audiences of both students and parents. He was responsible for leading school council, and taking on the views of all the other pupils in school. He was proactive and worked really hard to make sure new ideas, often his own, were implemented successfully. He met weekly with the Headteacher and senior staff to shares ideas and get involved in school decision making. In addition he attended Governing body meetings and was involved in interviews for the appointments of new members of staff.
Whilst in the sixth form Sam took part in our, ‘Tomorrow’s Teachers’ programme, taking part in sessions on teacher training, delivering lessons to small groups of younger pupils, and observing and supporting teaching staff in lessons. Sam was excellent and impressed staff involved in the programme, he showed genuine flair for teaching.
He is one of the most impressive Head Boys we have ever had, he showed empathy for younger pupils and was an outstanding role model. His exam results at both GCSE and A Level were outstanding but Sam always demonstrated humility and was remarkable humble about his achievements.
