I am delighted to write in support of Maddie Hancock’s application and consider her highly suitable for this role. I was her overall College tutor and occasional subject tutor throughout her undergraduate degree.
Alongside her very strong intellectual ability in language, literary and cultural study, Maddie is a reflective student with an excellent work ethic who really understands the learning experience and resourcefully overcomes its challenges. We awarded her a College prize in her final year to recognise her academic achievement, in particular her maturity. Independent and organised, responsive and highly motivated, a careful listener as well as a fluent and clear communicator, she is also a person of great warmth, enthusiasm, and integrity. Having worked very effectively in developing her abilities to excel as an undergraduate, she would be very well placed to advise others in maximising their potential as well as in honing specific language skills. A sympathetic personality and a flexible, responsible individual, she would adapt well to different age groups and engage learners with her encouraging and open manner. I recommend her very strongly and warmly as a tutor.

This is a reference recognising Madeleine’s generous contribution as both a volunteer and online tutor for, I love English, our ongoing project designed for primary schoolchildren in rural areas of Colombia. Her consistent support means that these young children have access to friendly and dynamic foreign language learning.
From 2017 to 2019, Madeleine connected on a weekly basis with classrooms and children for English lessons given via an online livestream. Virtual learning services have always been vital to our organisation’s work, ensuring that we can best support teachers in the most remote regions of Colombia. Madeleine’s online English teaching has allowed us to reach out to new volunteers and collaborators in order to further our cause: A Quality Education for All.
It is a privilege to be able to depend on Madeleine as a partner of the Foundation; her professionalism, punctuality, and commitment are unrivalled. In the last three years, Madeleine has never once missed a weekly session with our schools. Her warmth and encouragement have sparked curiosity and eagerness among the children as they approach learning a second language.
In 2020, despite the closure of schools due to Covid-19, Madeleine has continued to support public education services in Colombia. She records a short audio lesson for the children twice a week, accompanied by a visual aid. We share this material with almost 100 teachers who, in turn, share it with families in rural areas. Education can therefore continue thanks to a large online network of teachers and the dedicated support of volunteers like Madeleine.
In addition to her exceptional professionalism, Madeleine is a generous and cheerful person, committed to making the world a better place. She faces challenges with determination and optimism. It has been both an honour and pleasure to work with Madeleine as a teacher and friend of Fundación Proyecto Fábula.
