Having attained a First Class History BA at the University of Oxford, I am now studying for a Master’s degree in Modern British History 1850-Present at the University. I am most interested in tutoring History at any level, but I can also provide advice and information regarding the Oxbridge admissions system and study at Oxford if a client seeks this. I have experience in teaching English as a second language, as well as tutoring Geography, History and Religious Studies up to age 13. Furthermore, I have previously provided Oxbridge advice and support sessions to general candidates, as well as running mock interviews and personal statement feedback. All of my lessons are currently conducted online (on Skype or Zoom), but I have previously taught to classrooms of 20 pupils aged 7-19, and taught one-on-one or two-on-one classes in person.
I am passionate about tutoring because I have a deep love for my subject, and I believe that history is one of the best disciplines for developing students’ critical thinking and engagement with the academic scene. I would love to share my knowledge with another student, but I would also like to use the opportunity to broaden my own knowledge and to glean insights from an able pupil. I believe that the best approach to tutoring is to above all inspire confidence, and to encourage my students to think flexibly and creatively to develop their own arguments. There is no ‘right’ answer in History, but this only increases the potential for nuanced discussions which can often be steered towards the pupil’s individual strengths and interests.
