Japanese language lessons with Aileen sensei

My Subjects

 My Experience:

I am a PhD researcher at the interface of chemistry and biology. I have lived in Japan for several years as a researcher in labs in Tokyo, and I passed the JLPT N2 in 2019 and GCSE Japanese with an A* in 2010.
As a non-native speaker, I have first-hand experience of learning Japanese as a second language and understand the ups and downs in language learning, and the satisfaction of increasing fluency. No doubt Japanese is a challenging, but extremely rewarding language to learn.
Having lived in Japan, I will also introduce Japanese culture including festivals and annual events such as o-hanami and bon odori (of course from my own perspective). This understanding is important in the context of the GCSE Japanese syllabus, where several topics in the exam will include an ability to write or talk about aspects of Japanese culture.
Depending on your interests I will incorporate different learning styles and authentic learning materials. To monitor progress I will assign homework tasks and make the most of learning technologies such as apps, youtube channels, and Japanese texts. I look forward to helping you to progress and hopefully in time you will also have the opportunity to use your Japanese skills in Japan!

 My Qualifications:

Japanese Language Proficiency Test N2 (2019)
Chemistry MSci (Integrated Masters) (Imperial College London)
