Sociology with Haroon Amin

 Lesson Details

Sociology is a deceptively demanding A-level: students often know the theories but lose marks because they cannot deploy them as evaluation. My lessons work on both sides. We build clear, confident command of the core perspectives — functionalism, Marxism, feminism, interactionism and postmodernism — and of research methods, then turn that knowledge into the AO2 and AO3 marks examiners are looking for: applying theory to the question actually asked, and evaluating with counter-perspectives and evidence rather than a token final paragraph. We work through your topic areas together, then rehearse essay planning and timed writing on past questions, with detailed feedback on structure and use of studies. With a first-class law degree, a Distinction from the LSE and a Cambridge PGCE behind me, I am used to teaching essay-based social science subjects to a high standard and making abstract theory feel concrete.

My Subjects

 My Experience:

I am a history and law tutor with a first-class LLB from Aston University and a Distinction in MSc Empires, Colonialism and Globalisation from the LSE, and I am currently completing my PGCE at the University of Cambridge. I have tutored A-level and GCSE History, A-level Law, Sociology and Economics, working with students both one-to-one and in small seminar groups. My teaching focuses on building the analytical and essay-writing skills that examiners actually reward, structuring an argument, using evidence precisely, and knowing what each mark scheme is looking for. I enjoy making demanding material feel manageable, and I tailor each session to where a student is and where they need to be by exam day.

 My Qualifications:

LLB (Hons Law) - First Class - Aston University
Empires Colonialism and Globalisation - Distinction - London School of Economics
PGCE Secondary (History) - Cambridge University
